Dueling Critics

“It may not be art, but it is genius…’You Only Live Twice,’ scripted with flushes of wild whimsy and spicy cross-cultural teases by Roald Dahl, is the ne plus ultra of the series. The one that fully embodies all the flamboyance of cinema’s greatest character, and all the scope and brio of his adventures.”

“Roald Dahl’s script requires such a suspension of belief (even more than usual) for this film to work, it makes it difficult to enjoy. Bond manages to fake his own death, get married, and become Japanese, all in the space of two hours, the most unbelievable of these being the acceptance of Connery as a Japanese peasant.”
